It was great to see Fungie still on form after yesterdays blast. Paul was already in the water as Nick, Keith and I arrived and the dolphin was with him. They were having a fair old spin together. Fungie had disappeared again by the time the rest of us were swimming out. We didn’t have to wait too long though before he re-appeared. He was with Nick straight away and engaged with lots of close contact swimming – snaking alongside and spy hopping.
It turned out to be a lovely swim but the dolphin certainly wasn’t in boisterous leaping mood. He was mostly into spinning. Paul and I had a couple of sweet spins with him and Nick invented the comedy spin. Instead of sweeping round fast in the water, this consisted of him sitting on his board and paddling nonchalantly in a circle. Still, Fungie went for it, which just goes to show he probably has a sense of humour!
At one point Keith had Fungie streaming alongside his as he went for it with the front crawl. I attempted swimming straight instead of spinning and was amazed to see the dolphin literally inches beneath me in the water. Nick said he had found the same.
It seemed like the end of the swim and we headed in. We were just about to take off our fins when the dolphin appeared again fairly close in. Nick jumped back in and Fungie came to him, so Paul and I could hardly resist. The dolphin was really mellow now, just surfacing and disappearing. He was obviously feeling quite sly, and cheeky though. As I was still swimming out he popped up right beside me with absolutely no warning and took me by surprise. One last spin finished off the day.
