Force 5 to 6 gales, occasional heavy showers of rain, and unusually high tides, ideal swimming conditions………well, perhaps not for everyone. And indeed I must confess to feeling a tad apprehensive when we got to the beach and saw the large, sometimes huge swell which was crashing in against the rocks, there wasn’t even a beach to get in off. But hey, what the hell, a little bit of rough weather isn’t going to stop us lot from our swim with the dolphin. The trickiest part was getting in and getting out. Timing is everything. As soon as there was a lull in the swell we jumped in and kicked like the clappers. Once out of the breaking zone of the waves we were grand and I think we all relaxed into what was great fun out in the water. There were some really massive swells, which on our boogie boards were great, gliding up them then crashing down the other side. We were having a blast then to make things even more fun the dolphin showed up. At first we weren’t sure where he was, and it was difficult to spot him in between the waves. Then, with no warning at all, he did a massive jump over Keith then another! Magic, we all went ballistic, kicking about, whooping the adrenalin really running. Fungie it seemed was really getting a kick out of the rough weather, and we spotted him on a few occasions surfing like a mad thing down the face of the waves. He was jumping over Nick, and spy-hopping with us, spinning with OJ and Vinnie, never giving us more then a few seconds notice of his arrival. At one point during the swim he brought us all in really close together, I love when he does that, swimming about with us all. We timed our exit to perfection and clambered up the rocks, all of us totally exhilarated. I may only be able to get one or two swims in a week, but its quality not quantity!
