Two people had just left the water, when I arrived, but a girl was just getting back in. I saw Dusty fetch a length of kelp and bring it on her melon (forehead) to the girl. The girl tossed it away several times, and Dusty retrieved it. It was raining fat bubbles so I took the little shelter I could get from the rocks and waited. Once they were gone, I'd have it all for myself. And I did. For half an hour I was cradled in the cove by waves that seemed to get slyly bigger.

Normally I go do something for myself, like a little diving, just to see who are the other dwellers of the deep. But I could hardly see my own toes. A few times flashes of weed swept suddenly out of nowhere in my face. No fun down there. No fun up either. She did not show.

Could that be her way of saying that I did not deserve a swim after a rough, lonely week of waiting? I do not believe that but there may still be a lesson in there.
